COLUMBUS, INDIANA
Hedwig “Hedda” Jordan died Sunday, February 26, 2023 at Columbus Regional Hospital at the age of 87. Hedda was born October 4, 1935 in Rheingonheim, Germany, one of eleven children of Wilhelm and Marie Frosch. The deprivations and trauma of growing up during World War II would inform the rest of her life.
On September 11, 1953, she would walk into a caf? to escape a rainstorm and meet U.S. soldier Ed Jordan. It was his birthday. Soon after, they would marry and move to Ed’s native Indiana. They were married nearly 60 years before his death in January of 2016.
Hedda loved her adopted country but retained her core, very German qualities: fiercely loyal to her family, thriftiness, stubbornness and especially a firm believer in hard work. Her many jobs included, housecleaner, sales lady at Stansfield Dress Shop, assisting at auctions for Wetzel/Turner and as a school bus monitor for BCSC. Only after losing her eyesight in her early eighties, did she retire. She was often described as being “a pistol” and ” a force of nature”. She will be missed.
Surviving are sons, Harold and Robert; sister, Rose (Tom) Shoop; brother George (Bridget) Frosch; granddaughters, Alina (Mark) Jordan and Annika Jordan; great-granddaughter, Franziska; great grandson, Lars; daughter in law, Mechthild and sisters in law, Darla Brown and Anna Frosch.
The family would like to thank the residents and staff at Green Tree Senior Living and the fine, caring nurses and doctors at Columbus Regional Hospital.
Cremation is planned. Visitation is at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home 3855 25th Street Columbus, Indiana on Saturday, March 4 between 4:00 and 8:00 p.m. Please no flowers.
