CPD arrests 2 after reports of shots fired

Police said they recovered drugs and weapons after a warrant was issued to search a mobile home in the 2800 block of Scotland Drive.

Two Columbus men are in custody after a report of shots fired led to their arrests and the recovery of multiple firearms, currency and drugs, Columbus police reported.

At about 12:30 Friday morning, CPD officers were dispatched to the 3700 block of Camden Drive after a report of shots fired. When officers arrived, they could hear yelling inside a mobile home in the 2800 block of Scotland Drive. The officers also located a spent 9mm bullet casing outside of the home.

The officers made contact Kadin Atkins, 18, who lives at the residence on Scotland Drive. When officers entered the residence, they detected the strong odor of marijuana. They also made contact with Blaine A. Humphrey, 19, who also lives at the residence. During the course of the investigation, the officers applied for and later received a search warrant. While searching the residence, officers and detectives recovered two handguns and a rifle, several bags of marijuana, along with drug paraphernalia, digital scales, a currency counter, and nearly $10,000.00 in cash.

Atkins and Humphrey were placed under arrest and transported to the Bartholomew County Jail where they were remanded with a 48 hold. Atkins was held on preliminary charges of criminal recklessness and illegal consumption of alcohol and Humphrey on preliminary charges of possession of marijuana and illegal consumption of alcohol.

CPD said additional charges are expected to be added as the investigation continues.
