COLUMBUS, Ind. — The Columbus Area Arts Council announced Wednesday that Brooke Hawkins has been named as the organization’s executive director, effective immediately.

Following the departure of the previous executive director, Kathryn Armstrong, Hawkins was appointed to lead the Arts Council in an interim role that she has held since May of last year.

Hawkins has years of experience as a contractor and volunteers for the Arts Council. She has been the organization’s brand manager and graphic designer for five years, overseeing its rebranding in 2017. In addition, Hawkins has twice served as co-chair of Uncommon Cause, the non-profit’s largest annual fundraiser.

Arts Council Board President Mike Elwood said he is confident in Hawkins’ ability to lead the organization, citing her knowledge of, and relationships within, Columbus’ Cultural and Creative Community as a strong asset. “Brooke has led the organization with focus and a collaborative spirit. She is deeply committed to the arts and culture in this community.”

Under Hawkins’ leadership, the Arts Council will continue to provide popular programming in the community, such as First Fridays for Families and arts events in the 6th Street Arts Alley, and will explore new opportunities and partnerships.

Hawkins said she is excited by the possibilities that come along with the role. “The Arts Council will achieve our highest potential when we align our work with the priorities of the community and our partners. By relying on the relationships I have built as a lifelong and engaged resident of Columbus, I am certain we can strengthen the community through arts and culture,” Hawkins said.
