COLUMBUS

Jeffrey Alan Huffer, 56, of Columbus, passed away Wednesday, March 15, 2023, at his home. Born June 6, 1966, in Columbus, Jeff was the son of Eugene L. Huffer and Joyce A. Bush Joy.

He is survived by his brother Greg Huffer of Columbus; sisters Lou Ann Nyberg of Columbus, and Karen Misner of Decatur County; 4 nieces and nephews; 5 great nieces and nephews; and stepsisters Alysa Jones of North Carolina, Kimberly Rowe Taylor of Greenwood, and Pam Haynes of North Carolina.

Jeff was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Kathy, and his stepmother Carolyn.

Jeff was a 1984 graduate of Columbus East High School. He was self-employed as the owner and operator of a lawn care service. He lived his entire life in the Petersville/Newbern Community.

Jeff was a kind, caring, and thoughtful brother and friend. He had a great sense of humor and an infectious smile and will be missed immensely by all who knew him.

Jeff was an exceptional basketball and softball player when he was a young man. He enjoyed watching and following all sports and was an avid Colts, Steelers, Bobby Knight (in the day), and IU fan. He was a sportsman who loved hunting (particularly deer), fishing, and trapping. He was a nature’s child who loved everything that the great outdoors offered. When relaxing, Jeff loved listening to music or watching classic movies. He took particular pride in his lawn care work. He loved working in our orchards and property, planting, pruning, and spraying fruit trees, flowering trees, bushes, shrubs, etc. Jeff also enjoyed planting and caring for daylilies and other flowering plants, and looked forward to planting food plots for the critters every fall, and took great pride in helping maintain our country properties. He excelled at everything that involved the outdoors. On top of that, Jeff was also an exceptional cook.

Jeff will be cremated per his wishes, and there will be no visitation or service. He requested that his family have a private service at a later date.

In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jeff’s honor to Our Hospice of South-Central Indiana.
