Local woman dies in Indianapolis hospital following accident in downtown Columbus

COLUMBUS, Ind. — A local woman died at an Indianapolis hospital Saturday following an accident in downtown Columbus.

Columbus police said Brittany Watts, 28, Columbus, was taken to an Indianapolis trauma center following the accident at 8:06 p.m. Saturday at Fifth and Brown streets.

Investigators said Watts was driving north on Brown Street in a 2003 Acura TL passenger car when the crash occurred.

Forest Willey, 36, of Seymour was driving west on Fifth Street in a 2014 Subaru when his vehicle collided with Watt’s vehicle, Columbus police said. Willey advised officers that he had a green traffic signal to enter the intersection prior to the crash occurring. Wiley and his passenger sustained minor injuries in the crash, investigators said.

Watts, who was unconscious at the scene, was transported to CRH by ambulance and later flown to Indianapolis for medical treatment, where she later died from her injuries.

Columbus Police Department accident reconstructionists assisted with the crash investigation.
