MARTINSVILLE
Our dearest mother, Jayne Kay (Wiley) Higgins, 84, of Martinsville, IN, passed from this earth March 25, 2023.
She was born July 24, 1938, in Columbus, IN to Dale and Delpha (Clary) Wiley.
She attended Columbus High School and went on to continue her education at Cincinnati University (1956 – 1959). While attending, she was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. She graduated with a degree in Business Administration. She would go on to further her education at Butler University (1966) and Indiana University (1977-1978).
Jayne worked for both General Electric and Kroger while she resided in Cincinnati, OH. Afterwards, she moved to Boston, MA where she was an airline stewardess for American Airlines. Jayne eventually returned to Indianapolis and worked as a professional secretary and administrator for an architectural firm and in later years for Public Health Nursing in Bloomington and Indianapolis.
Jayne married her high school sweetheart, Stephen J Higgins, on January 27, 1962. They had actually attended the same first grade class and went on to enjoy 55 years of happiness together. In 1969, they moved to Martinsville, IN to raise their family. Jayne served Morgan County by volunteering at Green Township Elementary School and East Middle School. She was a member of the Denominational Garden Club of Morgan County, as well as a founding member and longtime active member of the Eta Chi chapter of Psi Iota Xi National Philanthropic sorority.
Jayne was proceeded in death by her parents and her husband, Stephen (2017).
She is survived by her children: son Herb A (Carrie) Higgins and daughter Laura A (Bunnie) Higgins; as well as her brother Richard (Stephanie) Wiley; Five grandchildren: Stephen (Ashley) Higgins, Haley (Erik) Higgins, Hope Lancaster, Kavan (Dayle) Speck, and Sam Speck; as well as five great-grandchildren: Ellie and Sophie; Zayden and Aralee; and Tobias.
