MADISON
Mrs. Carol Jean Speer Alexander, age 81, of Madison, Indiana entered this life on July 9, 1941 in Jennings County in North Vernon, Indiana. She was the loving daughter of the late Omar Eldo and Marvel Edith Ellis Speer. She was a 1959 graduate of North Vernon High School and then attended Indiana State University, where she met her future husband, Arnold “Bud” Alexander. Carol and Bud were married on July 29, 1961 in Hartford, Connecticut and resided in Plainville, Connecticut to raise their family. Carol attended Central Connecticut State University and completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Education. While raising her children she received her Masters degree in Special Education. Carol’s first teaching position was at Wish Elementary School in Hartford, Connecticut. Carol also taught Special Education in Okinawa, Japan and Vilseck, Germany for the U.S. Army Garrison Grafenwoehr. Carol returned to the states to reside in Dupont, Indiana to be near her family. Carol’s interests were gardening, traveling, crossword puzzles, collecting pieces of furniture/decor from countries she’d travel to, was an avid reader – reading several books at a time, and a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Carol died on Tuesday, March 28, 2023, at 11:02 p.m. at the Norton Brownsboro Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky. Carol will be missed by her loving son, John Alexander and his wife, Leah of Sonora, California; her grandchildren, Ryan David Alexander, Sara Jean Porter, Wyatt James Alexander, Cole Grant Alexander and Jayce David Alexander; her great grandchildren, Isabella Marie Alexander and Issac David Alexander; her brother, Harold “Bill” Speer and his wife, Allison; her sister, Barbara Speer McIntosh and her husband, Dennis; her sister in law, Patty Speer; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Omar Eldo Speer, her mother, Marvel Edith Ellis Speer, her husband, Arnold “Bud” Alexander, her sisters, Sharon Craft, Mary Marsh, Marilyn Warnell, her brothers, Jim Speer, Tom Speer, and Lonnie Speer, her daughters, Karen Lynn Alexander and Ann Marie “Annie” Alexander.
Interment will be at a later date in the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Hartford, Connecticut. Friends may visit Friday, April 14, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the Morgan &Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana.
