Quesenbery elected SRO regional director

BCSC School Resource Officer and Supervisor Sgt. Julie Quesenberry

A Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp. school resource officer has been chosen by her peers to represent a five-state region of the National Association of School Resource Officers.

Sgt. Julie Quesenbery has been elected as director of NASRO’s Region 5, which includes Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, Iowa and Kansas. According to NASRO, she will assume office on July 3 and serve a three-year term.

“I’m excited to share the work of SROs and to represent those five states in a way that we can collaborate more closely,” said Quesenbery. “And Region 5, just make sure that everyone has the resources to do their job effectively.”

Her opponents in the election were Anthony Garcia, a campus police officer for the Blue Valley School District in Kansas, and Kacey Wiltz, a corporal serving as an SRO at Lawrence Free State High School in Kansas. Active regular members of NASRO within the region were able to vote electronically from Feb. 6 to April 6.

Quesenbery said she received 73% of the vote.

As regional director, she will be a resource to SROs, school officials and NASRO members within the five-state region.

“I ran (for Region 5) because I love getting to have impact and influence in our state,” said Quesenbery, who is president of the Indiana School Resource Officers Association. “… I found myself wanting to expand that beyond the state of Indiana. And because I teach for the national association, I’ve made lots of friendships and gotten to know officers in all of Region 5. So because of that, that inspired me to get to work closer with them.”

According to her campaign materials, Quesenbery’s priorities as region director will include:

  • Strengthening relationships between NASRO and state associations within Region 5
  • Communicating frequently to all SROs within the region
  • Supporting school safety initiatives
  • Representing the interests of SROs in Region 5 on the NASRO Board
  • Attending state conferences to better support the organizations of Region 5

Quesenbery has been with the Columbus Police Department since 2005 and began serving as a school resource officer in 2014. She now supervises the entire resource officer team at BCSC.

The school corporation congratulated Quesenbery on her election to Region 5 director in a social media post, saying, “Way to go, Officer Q!”
