Rutan perfect in win

INDIANAPOLIS — Maddi Rutan threw a five-inning perfect game and struck out 13 of the 15 batters she faced Thursday to lead Class 4A No. 3 Columbus North to a 12-0 Conference Indiana win at Southport.

Josie Lemmons went 2 for 4 with a double, and Kelsey Lovelace had a home run and three RBIs for the Bull Dogs (9-0-1, 3-0). Kirsten Danford added two RBIs.

Owls edge Olympians

SEYMOUR — Columbus East took the lead with three runs in the top of the seventh, but Seymour tied it one in the bottom of the seventh and won it with one in the eighth for a 7-6 Hoosier Hills Conference victory.

Megan Kennedy went 2 for 3 with a double for the Olympians (8-4, 0-2). Hermione Robinson had a home run and two RBIs.

Jets roll vs. Mohawks

HOPE — After Hauser routed Waldron in a 16-2, five-inning Mid-Hoosier Conference decision, the Mohawks forfeited the second game to the Jets.

Paige McDaniel and Reagan Mack combined on a one-hitter for the Jets (6-3, 5-0). Reagan Johnson went 2 for 2 with two doubles and three RBIs, Lexi Hamilton and Kiley Mack each went 2 for 2 with two doubles and two RBIs, McDaniel went 2 for 2 with a double and two RBIs and Maley Jordan went 2 for 3 with a double, Lucie Asher went 2 for 3 and Kyra Meister had a triple and two RBIs.

Panthers top Trojans

ST. LEON — Jillian Brauer and Kenzie Matern combined on a six-hitter in Jennings County’s 4-2 win at East Central.

Matern and Riley Byford each went 2 for 3 for the Panthers (10-4). Brauer went 2 for 4.

Lancers down Chargers

GREENSBURG — Edinburgh scored 11 times in the first inning and pounded out 25 hits in a 22-5 Mid-Hoosier Conference win at North Decatur.

Kenna Streevel went 5 for 5 with two doubles and three RBIs, and Gracie Crawhorn went 4 for 5 with a double and six RBIs for the Lancers (6-5, 4-1). MacKenzie Bieker went 3 for 4 with a home run and four RBIs, Lillie Goff went 3 for 4 with two RBIs. Alix Streeval went 2 for 3 with two doubles and two RBIs, Lexi Riley went 2 for 3 with two RBIs and Gracie Barrett went 2 for 4.

Beeker and Alix Streeval combined on a five-hitter.

Trinity routs Raiders

VERSAILLES — Bailey Tabeling went 4 for 4 with a double, a home run and seven RBIs to lead Trinity Lutheran to a 13-1, six-inning win at South Ripley.

Grace Lance went 2 for 4 with two RBIs and threw a four-hitter with 10 strikeouts for the Cougars (8-4).

BASEBALL

North tops Jennings

NORTH VERNON — Blake Osbourne and Lane Schrader combined on a three-hitter with 14 strikeouts to lead Columbus North to a 14-1 win at Jennings County.

Dillon James went 2 for 3 with a double and a home run, and Joey Fry went 2 for 3 the Bull Dogs (6-5). Luke Harmon went 2 for 4, Connor Hensley went 2 for 5 with a double and Zach McLean had a home run and two RBIs.

Cole Sigler went 2 for 3 with a double for the Panthers (3-7).

Jets sweep Mohawks

WALDRON — Hauser swept an MHC doubleheader at Waldron, winning 5-4 and 11-3.

The Jets had to rally with two runs in the bottom of the sixth in the opener. Kameron Blair went 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs.

Simeon Wasil and Holden Pittman combined on a two-hitter in a five-inning second game. Wasil went 3 for 3 with three RBIs, Stryker Gill went 2 for 3 with two RBIs and Owen McIntyre had a double and two RBIs for Hauser (8-5, 6-0).

Cougars topple Milan

MILAN — South Decatur trailed 1-0 before scoring five runs in the fourth on its way to a 6-2 win at Milan.

Avery Seegers went 4 for 4 with two doubles and two RBIs, and Colby Rathburn had two RBIs for the Cougars (7-2). Brady Lane, Brock Lane and Devin Pate combined on a four-hitter.

Eagles fall to T-Birds

BLOOMFIELD — Eastern Greene scored in each of the first five innings in a 12-3, six-inning victory against Brown County.

Kody Shugars went 2 for 2 with a double and three RBIs for the Eagles (1-7, 1-5). Jade Wollems went 2 for 4.

Chargers stop Lancers

GREENSBURG — North Decatur scored 17 times in the first three innings on its way to an 18-3, five-inning MHC win against Edinburgh.

Jarrett Turner went 2 for 2 with a double and two RBIs for the Lancers (1-9, 1-6). Jared Myers went 2 for 3.

GIRLS TENNIS

North blanks Warriors

SCOTTSBURG — No. 9 Columbus North dropped only nine games in the five matches in rolling to a 5-0 win at Scottsburg.

Kathryn Wilson blanked Claire Routt at No. 1 singles, and Aya Saad beat Grace Routt at No. 2 singles, both by 6-0, 6-0 scores for the Bull Dogs (8-1). Annabelle Sun topped Olivia Spellman 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 singles.

North’s Lucy Bergman and Grace Conner downed Kira Shelhamer and Olivia Fugate 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1 doubles. Siri Poludasu and Nino Akhalaya defeated Klara Leach and Melea Luttrell 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles.

East shuts out Cubs

Columbus East won all five matches in straight sets in a 5-0 win against Madison.

Lauren Degner blanked Claire Slygh 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, Katie Hong beat Erin Burkhardt 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2 singles and Ruth Federle topped Ruby Willoughby 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 singles for the Olympians (3-8).

East’s Katey Rieckers and Shruthika Kumar downed Michelle Laguna-Rafael and Riley Poley 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1 doubles. Allie Gribbins and Ashlynn Waddle defeated Marley Stivers and Bridgett Boles 6-0, 6-3 at No. 2 doubles.

WALDRON — Hauser won four matches in straight sets in a 4-1 MHC win at Waldron.

Bella Kilps beat Josee Larrison 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1 singles, and Charlie Clark topped Emily Tyree 6-1, 6-4 at No. 2 singles for the Jets (4-3, 2-0). Mattie Foster and Addyson Barriger downed Riley Price and Jackie Corlett 6-3, 6-3 at No. 1 doubles, and Kayden Miller and Abby Blair defeated Grace Ross and Alivia Fischer 6-3, 7-5 at No. 2 doubles.

Hauser’s Lydia Jordan fell to Emerson Lindsey 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3 singles.

Stars edge Panthers

NORTH VERNON — Jennings County won the No. 1 and No. 2 singles matches, but Bedford North Lawrence took the other three to claim a 3-2 victory.

Tatum Brown beat Becca Epping 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, and Kaydence Lowman topped Ashlyn Wever 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2 singles for the Panthers (1-5).

Jennings’ Mia Silvey fell to Italy Lewis 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles. Makenzey Carr and Joline Chen lost to Bella Stigal and Mallory Pride 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 doubles, and Gabi Morin and Jocelyn Valdovinos fell to Kenley Craig and Izzy Alldredge 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles.

BOYS GOLF

Jets finish third

BATESVILLE — Hauser finished third in a tri match at Batesville. The host Bulldogs won with a 172 to 176 for North Decatur and 198 for the Jets.

Hunter Pappano led Hauser with a 43. Caleb Wallace carded a 45, Sam Hoene carded a 50, Marshall Moody shot 54, Brenden Burton had a 56 and Colton Hatton finished with a 63.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

North drops pair

INDIANAPOLIS — Columbus North lost twice Wednesday at Brebeuf, falling to Carmel 25-16, 25-23 and to the host and No. 7-ranked Braves 25-15, 25-19.

The Bull Dogs fell to 0-5, with four of the five losses coming against top-10 teams.
