East tops Jennings
Columbus East picked up its fourth win of the season Monday, a 4-1 victory against Jennings County.
Lauren Degner beat Tatum Brown 6-1, 5-7 (11-9) at No. 1 singles, and Ruth Federle topped Mia Silver 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3 singles for the Olympians (4-8). East’s Shruthika Kumar and Katey Rieckers defeated Trina Collins and Makenzey Carr 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles, and Sara Moran and Allie Gribbins blanked Joceyln Valdovinos and Gabi Morin 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles.
The point for the the Panthers (1-6) came at No. 2 singles, where Kaydence Lowman outlasted Katie Hong 6-2, 4-6, (10-5).
Jets slip past Cubs
MADISON — Hauser pulled out a three-set win at No. 1 doubles to claim a 3-2 victory at Madison.
Bella Kilps beat Claire Slygh 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, and Charlie Clark topped Erin Burkhardt 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles for the Jets (5-3). Mattie Foster and Addyson Barriger downed Michelle Laguna-Rafael and Riley Poling 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 at No. 1 doubles.
Hauser’s Lydia Jordan fell to Ruby Willoughby 4-6, 6-3, (10-7) at No. 3 singles. Abby Blair and Kayden Miller lost to Alexis Davis and Bridgett Boles 6-2, 6-4 at No. 2 doubles.
Lions edge Lancers
EDINBURGH — Rushville notched a three-set win at No. 1 doubles to pull out a 3-2 victory at Edinburgh.
Jessica Walsh beat Brooklyn Newbold 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 singles for the Lancers. Lily Turner and Mia Dodson topped Megan Alexander and Katie Tabeling 7-5, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles.
Edinburgh’s Izzy Richardson fell to Audrey Gulley 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles, and Zoey Sida lost to Isabella Wilson 6-1, 6-4 at No. 3 singles. Jillian Turner and Gracie Myers fell to Morgan Beard and Lanea Adams 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 at No. 1 doubles.
BOYS GOLF
Panthers nip North
No. 15 Columbus North came close to upsetting No. 3 Bloomington South, but fell just short in a 304-305 loss at Harrison Lake Country Club.
Willy Davis led the Bull Dogs with a 3-over-par 74. John Merritt carded a 75, Jack Schiavello added a 77, Joseph Perkins shot 79, Tyler Wilks had an 80 and Alex Clark finished with an 81.
Eagles take tri match
EDINBURGH — Max Blandford won medalist honors with a 1-under-par 35 to lead Edinburgh to a tri-match win at Timbergate. The Lancers scored a 173 to 195 for Brown County and 214 for Waldron.
Mason Calhoun carded a 43 for Edinburgh. Wyatt Burton added a 45, Devyn Milburn and Keegan Smith each shot 50, Gabe Bennett had a 52, DJ Riddle finished with a 58 and Trenton Schmidt had a 59.
Clay Austin led the Eagles with a 45. Wesley Arndt carded a 47, Bradley Arndt added a 48. Liam Cassiday shot 55 and Jon Kirchhofer had a 67.
SOFTBALL
Crusaders open with win
CROTHERSVILLE — Columbus Christian opened its season with a 17-11, five-inning win at Crothersville.
Lilly Oliphant went 2 for 4 for the Crusaders. Paige Benjamin-Harden and Jaren Schuler combined on a five hitter.
Warriors stop Panthers
SCOTTSBURG — Jennings County led 2-1 after four innings, but Scottsburg scored three in the fifth and two in the sixth to claim a 7-3 victory.
Five different players had one hit for the Panthers (10-5). Jillian Brauer and Kenzie Matern combined on an eight-hitter.
Braves blank Lancers
EDINBURGH — Indian Creek broke a scoreless tie with three runs in the top of the seventh to claim a 3-0 win at Edinburgh.
MacKenzie Bieker threw a five-hitter and had the lone hit offensively for the Lancers (6-6).
Grizzly Cubs top Eagles
NASHVILLE — Franklin scored at least three runs in all five innings in handing Brown County a 20-3 defeat.
Taylor Poling hit a two-run home run for the Eagles (2-7).
BASEBALL
Columbus Christian falls
DUGGER — Columbus Christian tied the game with a run in the top of the seventh, but Dugger Union plated a run in the bottom of the inning to hand the Crusaders a 2-1 season-opening loss.
Branson Carr had the lone hit for the Crusaders. Cam Watts-Pritchard and Carr combined on a five-hitter.
Panthers fall to Eagles
AUSTIN — Austin jumped out to a 7-0 lead after two innings and went on to post a 12-2, five-inning win against Jennings County.
Three different players had a single for the Panthers (3-9).
