Edith “Colleen” Mead

Edith “Colleen” Mead, 71, of Columbus, passed away on April 22, 2023, at her home. She was born to Robert V. Kelley and Evelyn I. Edwards Kelley in Columbus, Indiana, on July 27, 1951, and was the wife the late James Q. Mead.

Colleen enjoyed spending her days with her children, and grandchildren, talking on the phone, caring for her flowers, lilac bushes, and yard, and watching her red birds. Amongst all of that, she also spent time cleaning, and cooking, and playing cards.

In her younger days, Colleen sold Avon products for years, before waitressing and bussing tables at Bob Evens where she worked for 13 years until she went blind and had to quit.

She is survived by her sons, Charles (Kim) Mead, Ed (Gwenda) Mead, Richard (Donnetta) Mead, all of Columbus, and Jimmie G. Mead, of North Carolina; her sister, Connie (Rick) Wininger, of Columbus; grandsons, Eddie (Mickey) King, Samson Mead, Edward (Rhegan) Mead, all of Columbus, and Joseph Mead, of North Carolina; granddaughters, Dystiny Green, Thea (Coleman) Glick, Shilo Mead, Loralee Mead, Jennifer Mead, Kendyll Robbins, all of Columbus, Chris (Austin) Mozingo, of South Carolina, and Christine Mead, of North Carolina; and many great-grandchildren.

Edith is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Evelyn Kelley; husband, James Q. Mead; daughters, Wendy (Joe) Fish, Star Mead, and Nada King; and grandchildren, Courtney King, Shelby Mead, and James Steven King.

The funeral will be at 1:00 PM on Friday, April 28, 2023, at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with Ron Bridgewater officiating the service. Visitation will be from 4 PM to 8 PM on Thursday, April 27, 2023, also at the funeral home, and one hour prior to the service on Friday. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.
