Philharmonic launching chamber orchestra series

The Columbus Indiana Philharmonic, fresh from launching a sold-out jazz series, now is launching a summertime chamber orchestra series at Helen Haddad Hall in downtown Columbus.

“Summer Nights at Helen’s” will be a three-concert series featuring various chamber-style music with ensembles from the orchestra’s own musicians. It was the wish of the late Helen Haddad, a longtime supporter of the arts in Columbus and especially the Philharmonic, to have musical performances at the venue year ‘round.

Each concert will include 72 seats and tickets priced at $45. Tickets are available beginning Tuesday at thecip.org.

“We are thrilled to honor her legacy by offering this music series to the community,” said Donnie Robinette, the Philharmonic’s executive director.

He added that the series meets the musicians desire to perform beyond their usual eight-date, ticketed orchestral season, and it gives local audiences another top-notch entertainment option downtown.

Here are the dates and groups scheduled:

  • Friday, June 16: The Columbus Indiana Philharmonic Brass Quintet
  • Friday, July 28: Cercis Quartet (strings ensemble)
  • Friday, Aug. 11: Ivory Winds (piano and winds)

Tickets include hors d’oeuvres and cash bar. Doors will open at 6:45 p.m. and the performance will begin at 7:30 p.m. Each concert will be 90-minutes and will include a 15-minute intermission. All patrons will have the opportunity to meet with the musicians after the concert.

Robinette mentiomned that businesses or individuals interested in sponsorship of this chamber concert series or any Philharmonic-related events may contact the Lexi Schneider, CIP’s Patron Development Director at [email protected] for more information. The jazz series sponsorships allowed it to be a money maker from the start for the Philharmonic, according to Robinette.
