COLUMBUS, Ind. — Local community members have announced a new organization focused on the vitality of downtown Columbus.

The Office of Downtown Development (ODD Office) announced the launch of its operations on Monday, along with the news that Ike DeClue will serve as executive director. The organization will be focused on investing into the downtown area and have its initial office at the former Casey’s Jewelers on Fourth Street.

“There is no better time or opportunity for success in enhancing the quality of our downtown,” said DeClue. “Like many other cities, Columbus is challenged by how we emerge from the struggles and setbacks of recent years, and particularly post-pandemic, how businesses and organizations can evolve to adapt and thrive.”

Organizers said that the formation of ODD Office is a “grassroots initiative” that has included over a year of research, community outreach, information sessions and fundraising. Funding for the startup’s operational budget was provided through private, corporate and civic investments.

“In an effort to incubate high quality programs and entertainment, and dining and retail experiences in downtown Columbus, the Office of Downtown Development (ODD Office) aims to collaborate with community leaders, businesses and organizations, building owners, prospects and citizens, with the primary objective of shaping a thriving downtown that attracts top talent to live, learn, work, play, and stay in Columbus,” the organization said in a press release. “ODD Office will collaborate with the numerous organizations throughout Bartholomew County dedicated to community improvement, development, and enhancement.”
