Mike Wolanin | The Republic Water rescue teams from the Columbus Fire Department, Bartholomew County Sheriff Department and Columbus Township Fire Department search the East Fork White River near the Second Street bridge for an individual who “hopped” off the bridge, but nothing was found.

Water rescue teams from the Columbus Fire Department and the Bartholomew County Sheriff Department and Columbus Township Fire Department searched the East Fork White River for about an hour Friday afternoon on a report of someone hopping over the Second Street bridge railing.

The search began at 4:31 p.m., said Capt. Mike Wilson, Columbus Fire Department spokesman, and was called off an hour later after nothing was found.

Columbus police and county sheriff deputies also walked the riverbank in the area of the bridges in an attempt to locate anyone who might have stepped over the bridge, but nothing was located.

Columbus firefighters also used the department’s drone as part of the search.
