Bull Dogs best Braves

BROWNSTOWN — Maddi Rutan went 2 for 4 with two home runs and four RBIs and combined with Bailee Scruggs on a five-hitter to lead Class 4A No. 2 Columbus North to a 16-3, six-inning win at Brownstown Central.

Josie Lemmons went 3 for 5 for the Bull Dogs (18-1-1), who pounded out 16 hits. Peyton Morris went 2 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs, Kirsten Danford went 2 for 3, Kelsey Lovelace went 2 for 5 with two doubles and three RBIs, and Scruggs hit her first career home run and had two RBIs.

Cougars down Mohawks

GREENSBURG — Molly Eden went 4 for 5 with a double, three triples and three RBIs to lead South Decatur to an 18-11 Mid-Hoosier Conference win against Waldron.

Lydia Witkemper went 3 for 4 with two doubles for the Cougars (4-13, 3-5). Piper Phelps went 2 for 3 with two RBIs, and Sami Storm went 2 for 5 with three RBIs.

East falls to Floyd

FLOYDS KNOBS — Columbus East fell to Floyd Central 8-2 in the opening round of the Hoosier Hills Conference Tournament.

Caleb Martoccia went 2 for 4 for the Olympians (4-15). Jacob Clark, Blake Borkhardt and Jordan Flanders combined on a seven-hitter.

Cougars topple Eagles

GREENWOOD — Brown County scored three times in the top of the first, but Greenwood Christian Academy rallied for a 14-3, five-inning victory.

Three different players had singles for the Eagles (3-13).

Cubs top Olympians

MADISON — Columbus East came away with a 147-160 loss to Madison at Sunrise.

Spencer Erfmeier led the Olympians with a 38. Pierce Arnholt carded a 39, Carter Greene added a 41, Ben Luedeke shot 42, Jamall Starks had a 44 and Keaton Stephenson finished with a 53.

Lancers take second

EDINBURGH — Edinburgh and Hauser both shot 180 at Timbergate, with the Lancers taking second and the Jets third on the fifth-score tiebreaker. North Decatur won with a 160.

Max Blandford led Edinburgh with a 41. Wyatt Burton carded a 43, Keegan Smith added a 45, Devyn Milburn shot 47, Gabe Bennett had a 49, Trenton Schmidt finished with a 50, Austin Brockman shot 52 and Mason Calhoun had a 53.

Hunter Pappano led Hauser with a 40. Caleb Wallace carded a 43, Sam Hoene added a 45, Brenden Burton shot 52 and Marshall Moody had a 49.

Lancers edge Spartans

SHELBYVILLE — Edinburgh pulled out a three-set win at No. 3 singles to claim a 3-2 MHC win at Southwestern (Shelby).

Jessica Walsh beat Ella Rice 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, and Izzy Richardson topped Tori Burkhart 6-1, 3-6, 6-0 at No. 3 singles for the Lancers (4-7, 2-1). Lily Turner and Mia Dodson won 6-1, 6-4 at No. 2 doubles.

Edinburgh’s Zoey Sida fell to McKinzie Delton 6-4, 6-3 at No. 2 singles. Jillian Turner and Gracie Myers lost 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1 doubles.
