Scottsburg man suffers serious injuries in U.S. 31 crash in Jackson County

JACKSON COUNTY — A Scottsburg man was injured after his vehicle collided with a semi on U.S. 31 in Jackson County on Monday.
A about 2:30 p.m., a white 2005 Ford F-250 driven by Brian Mullins, 43, Scottsburg, was traveling north on U.S. 31 approaching County Road 275N (New Farmington Road) south of Seymour when for an unknown reason, his vehicle left the east side of the road.
He overcorrected, state police said and crossed U.S. 31 and left the west side of the road.
The vehicle struck an embankment before striking the passenger side of a 2023 Freightliner semi pulling a trailer, being driven by Daniel Adkins, 45, Harrison, Ohio, that was stopped on County Road 275N at the intersection to U.S. 31. Mullins, who was not properly wearing a safety belt, was ejected from the vehicle during the crash, investigators said
Mullins sustained life-threatening injuries in the crash. He was transported by ambulance to Schneck Medical Center in Seymour before being flown to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis for further treatment. Adkins was not injured in the crash.
Toxicology results on both drivers are pending at this time.
The investigation by Trooper Andrew Garrett is ongoing. Garrett was assisted by additional Indiana State Police Crash Reconstructionists and troopers from the Indiana State Police-Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division. Also assisting were the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, Seymour Fire Department, Jackson County EMS, Indiana Department of Transportation, 31 Wrecker Service, and Duke Energy.
