Eastern Bartholomew Water issues a boil water advisory for all of its customers, including town of Hope

12:30 p.m. update

Eastern Bartholomew Water officials corrected an earlier announcement about the boil water advisory, now saying the reason for the boil water notice is that there was too  little chlorine put in the water due to a malfunction.

The boil water advisory, which includes all Eastern Bartholomew water customers, including Hope residents, began at 10 p.m. Tuesday and continues for 48 hours, according to the utility.

11:30 a.m. update

Eastern Bartholomew Water attorney Pete King says the water utility will be releasing a public statement around 12:30 p.m.

The boil water advisory notice does include the entire town of Hope, which buys its water from Eastern Bartholomew Water, according to Bartholomew County Emergency Management.

ORIGINAL STORY

COLUMBUS, Ind. — Eastern Bartholomew Water has issued a Boil Water Advisory for all of its customers for the next 48 hours.

Bring water to a rolling boil for two minutes before ingesting. Company officials said the water contains too much chlorine due to a “malfunction in the chlorine line.”

When contacted this morning, officials at Eastern Bartholomew refused to answer questions clarifying the cause of the chlorine issue, how it is being repaired and whether or not boiling water will alleviate the issue with the chlorine. All questions were directed to the water company’s attorney, Pete King.
