INDIANAPOLIS — Rep. Greg Pence, R-Indiana, on Tuesday threw his support behind Indiana Lt. Gov. Suzanne Crouch in her bid for governor, calling her a “proven conservative.”
In a statement, Pence said Crouch “will protect Hoosier values, stand up for families, faith, life and will always support law enforcement.”
“I am proud to offer her my endorsement as our next governor,” Pence added.
He is the older brother to former U.S. Vice President Mike Pence, who has taken flack from right-wing Americans for breaking with former President Donald Trump when he refused to overturn the 2020 presidential election results.
Crouch herself has focused her campaign on lowering taxes, improving public safety and fighting abortion — with messaging leaning decidedly further right than her economic development-focused boss, Gov. Eric Holcomb.
She has posted in support of several of the legislative’s session’s most controversial bills, including anti-‘woke’ pension investing, school-parent notification of child pronoun changes, and a massive expansion of the state’s program offering vouchers to private schools. She also commented on a new tax study and a major mental health bill.
Crouch has slowly begun releasing endorsements — announcing Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke’s pledge of support on Monday — since the conclusion of the budget-year session. Indiana law bars state officeholders and candidates seeking state office from soliciting or accepting campaign contributions during these sessions, which occur every other year.
Crouch is running against Sen. Mike Braun and Fort Wayne businessman Eric Doden for the GOP nomination. Democrat and former superintendent of public instruction Jennifer McCormick has also entered the race, as well as Libertarian Donald Rainwater.
