Charles R. Israel

GREENSBURG

Charles R. Israel, 91, of Greensburg passed away Friday May 19, 2023 at I U Health Methodist Hospital.

Born May 5, 1932 he was the son of Ralph D. and Inez E. Kelley Israel. He married Margaret Crowhorn April 3, 1955 and she preceded him in death January 31, 2018.

Before retirement Charles was owner and operator of Israel’s Garage.

He served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of Burney/Clay Volunteer Fire Department for many years. He weighed tractors at the Decatur County 4-H Fair, the Power of the Past Festival and the Burney Tractor Pulls. Charles enjoyed fishing and doing family genealogy.

After Charle’s first heart attack he got involved with the Heart Club at Columbus Regional Hospital and helped develop healthy dessert recipes.

Charles is survived by children, Gail (Bob) Ward of Greensburg, David (Peggy) Israel of Greensburg and Belva (Steve) Brunner of Fayetteville, NC; grandchildren, Jennifer (Mike) Ramech, Justin (Jenn) Israel and Erin (Brad) Hardebeck; five great grandchildren; siblings, Dennis (Juanita) Israel, Kenneth (Karen) Israel, Max (Wanda) Israel, Carol Workman and Sally Stoner.

Charles funeral will be Wednesday May 24 at 11:00 a.m. at Norman Funeral Home in Hope. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. and Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be donated to Burney/Clay Volunteer Fire Department.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; grandson, Craig Ward and five siblings.
