COLUMBUS
Elizabeth L. Cody, 80, passed away Saturday, May 20, 2023 at Columbus Regional Hospital. Elizabeth was born October 19, 1942 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She was the daughter of Jefferson Oscar Shaw and Iva Mae Long.
She was a member of the American Legion Post 24 Auxiliary and a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post 1987 Auxiliary. She was also an avid Bingo player and enjoyed watching wrestling.
Elizabeth is survived by her companion of 20 years, Leonard Koontz; Her daughter, Cynthia Whitis; son, James Cody; step-daughter, Misty Koontz and her daughter; grandchildren, Robbie Hubbard, Sean Hubbard, Ryan Hubbard, Jennifer Hubbard, Charity Hubbard, and John Weidman; several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; sisters, Barbara Purtlebaugh and Victoria Shaw; and best friend, Cora Merriman.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, James Cody; her parents; her step-father, Morgan Long; her daughter, Debra Weidman; her son, Teddy Hubbard; grandson, Dale Hubbard; great-grandson, Brady Joe Brockman; sisters, Annabelle Socha and Ochie Shaw; and brothers, Zaider Shaw, Lonnie Shaw, Michael Shaw, and Rollin Shaw.
A funeral service to honor the life of Elizabeth will be held Tuesday, May 30 at 4 p.m. at Myers-Reed Chapel with Rev. Alan J. White officiating. Burial will follow at Bethel Baptist Cemetery. Friends may gather for visitation from 1 p.m. until the time of the service.
