JENNINGS COUNTY — A narcotics investigation spanning several months led to a pursuit and seizure of a large quantity of methamphetamine, Jennings County Sheriff deputies said.
The investigation discovered that suspect Marc Rossignol, 40, North Vernon, and other individuals were bringing large quantities of methamphetamine into Jennings County for distribution, deputies said, and a Level 2 felony warrant was issued for Rossignol for dealing methamphetamine.
Sgt. Thomas Mellencamp applied for and was granted a Jennings County search warrant Monday forĀ  Rossignol’s residence, according to the sheriff department.
As deputies were on their way to serve the warrant, one of the suspects involved, Christopher Kurdys, of Madison, left the residence. Deputies knew that Kurdys had an active felony arrest warrant and Sgt. Cody Low attempted to stop him, deputies said. Kurdys then fled at a high rate of speed initiating a pursuit.
Deputy John Amis successfully deployed a tire deflation device, however, Kurdys continued southbound through North Vernon at a high rate of speed. He crashed into a pole on South State Street near the Sheriff’s Office, causing substantial damage.
Kurdys suffered serious injuries and was flown to an Indianapolis area hospital where he is in stable condition, deputies said. A large amount of illegal narcotics and cash were located in Kurdys’ vehicle and it was noted he was a habitual traffic violator.
At the same time as the pursuit, other deputies went to Rossignol’s residence and served the search warrant. At Rossignol’s residence, deputies located over 1 pound of methamphetamine, more than $10,000 in cash, scales, packaging material, and a firearm, deputies said, also noting Rossignol is a serious violent felon and restricted from owning firearms. There were two children that were 3 months old present in the home during this incident.
