3 North grads named National Merit Scholars

Three Columbus North High School graduates — two bound for Purdue University and one heading to Indiana University — are among more than 3,000 National Merit Scholars whose selections were announced Tuesday.

Sriniketh Atmakur, Arjun S. Bhadoria and Ananya Ramanujapuram were the only Bartholomew County students whose selections were announced by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC). National Merit Scholarships announced Tuesday are financed by participating U.S. colleges and universities that provide scholars $500 to $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study.

According to NMSC, Atmakur plans to attend Purdue and study aerospace engineering; Bhadoria also plans to attend Purdue and study chemical engineering; and Ramanujapuram plans to attend IU and study pediatrics.

An additional group of college-funded National Merit Scholars will be announced in July.
