Hope Independence Day fun planned Friday

HOPE — The annual Old-Fashioned Independence Day celebration will take place Friday in Hope Town Square.

Among the events are a pie baking contest, kids’ parade of decorated bikes, tricycles, strollers and wagons, and the Little Miss and Mr. Firecracker Contest.

The Yellow Trail Museum will be open all evening and serving ice cream floats for $1. Pony rides, a balloon man and face painting will also be available.

The event schedule is as follows:

  • 5:30 p.m.: Crafts, food and parade registration open.
  • 6 p.m.: Apple pie contest registration open.
  • 6:15 p.m.: Crowning of Miss and Mr. Firecracker.
  • 6:30 p.m.: Parade of decorated bikes begins.
  • 6:30-9 p.m.: Bannister Family Band performance.
  • 6:45 p.m.: Cake walk in the shelter house.
  • 7 p.m.: Sack races.
  • 7:30 p.m.: Watermelon seed spitting contest.
  • 7:45 p.m.: Tug of war.
  • 8 p.m.: Peterman Brothers’ water balloon toss.
  • 10 p.m.: Fireworks begin.

Those who attend are encouraged to bring their own chairs and blankets to watch the fireworks.
