Hubert was born December 20, 1932, in Camden, Ohio to William and Hazel Tharp Brandenburg. He was one of 8 children. He married Ida Marie Hessler on September 2, 1953.

Hubert loved to tell stories of how he and his twin brother, Herbert, did everything together. Upon graduation from high school, they entered into the United States Army, went to boot camp, were trained as tank mechanics, and were never separated during their service. They built homes and raised their families across the street from each other. Hubert and Marie were married 41 years before her passing in 1994. Herbert preceded Hubert in death in 2016.

He married Beverly Thompson Wetzel on October 29,1998, adding 3 stepdaughters and eventually 6 step-grandchildren to his family.

Hubert was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Marie; his daughter, Linda Johns; sisters, Opal Martin, Juanita Brandenburg, and Peggy Sawyer; and brothers, Joseph, Herbert, and Robert Brandenburg.

Hubert was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War and retired from Reliance Electric after 33 years of service.

A member of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, Hubert liked to tend his garden, read, mow grass, bush hog pastures, fish, and line dance. He enjoyed watching the horses off of his front porch. Hubert especially loved being a grandpa and watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow up.

He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Beverly; his son, Clayton (Staci) Brandenburg of Scipio; his grandchildren, Layton (Ceara) Brandenburg of Scipio, Katrina Brandenburg, Ian (Stephanie) Johns of Columbus, and Miranda (George) Johns-Cummings of Normal, Illinois; his great-grandchildren, Andora Cummings and Camille Brandenburg; sister, Joyce Brandenburg of College Corner, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
