Columbus hires McIntyre as financial director

A financial leader from Columbus Regional Health has been named as the new head of finance for the city of Columbus.

City officials announced Wednesday that Regina D. McIntyre is taking on the role and will oversee financial, budget and accounting strategy for Mayor Jim Lienhoop through the remainder of 2023. Starting in January of 2024, she will move into the position of city controller, as the city will officially become a second class city at that time.

“The city of Columbus is very pleased to be adding an individual with the skill and experience needed to successfully enhance our operations as we successfully transition to a 2nd class city with the required changes,” said Lienhoop. “We fully expect Regina will be an asset in the years to come.”

Indiana Code specifies that while third class cities elect a clerk-treasurer, second class cities elect a clerk. Both positions fill the role of city clerk; however, the clerk-treasurer also serves as the city’s fiscal officer. In a second class city, the fiscal officer is a city controller appointed by the mayor.

McIntyre will work with the clerk-treasurer’s office on the transition, said Director of Administration and Community Development Mary Ferdon.

McIntyre started as the city’s new finance director on Wednesday. Prior to joining the city, she was employed by CRH for 21 years, most recently serving as director of patient finance. In this role, she managed a team of 40 employees, oversaw patient billing from multiple revenue sources and “championed multiple Lean Six Sigma efforts, in conjunction with other methods, to standardize and streamline processes throughout the hospital,” city officials said.

When asked what drew her to the city’s position, McIntyre replied, “I’ve been working in receivables at Columbus Regional for the last 18 years, billing and collections. And so I was really interested in getting back to working in accounting and using my CPA.”
