A long-term investigation by the Joint Narcotics Enforcement Team and Intelligence Led Policing Unit led to the arrest of a local man on multiple drug charges.

Investigators arrested Leonard Marshall, 53, of 3129 25th St., Columbus on July 5 after conducting surveillance on him after he was identified as a suspected distributor of crack cocaine and methamphetamine.

During the surveillance, law enforcement officers observed Marshall commit a traffic violation, and during the traffic stop, probable cause was developed to conduct a search of Marshall’s vehicle, said Sgt. Dane Duke, Bartholomew County Sheriff Department spokesman. During the search of the vehicle and Marshall’s person, investigators located approximately 97 grams of methamphetamine and more than 3.5 grams of suspected crack cocaine, Duke said.

Marshall was taken to the Bartholomew County Jail on the preliminary charges of Level 2 felony dealing in methamphetamine, Level 3 felony possession of methamphetamine and Level 5 felony possession of cocaine. Additional charges are possible in this investigation, Duke said.

Marshall is being held in the Bartholomew County Jail with no bond, according to jail records.

The Joint Narcotics Enforcement Team, a combined unit of the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office, the Columbus Police Department and the Bartholomew County Prosecutor’s Office, is targeting the manufacturing and abuse of dangerous drugs in Columbus and Bartholomew County.
