Herron nets top-20 finish in Women’s Amateur

Tobi Herron

Tobi Herron had her best outing Friday in the final round of the Indiana Women’s Amateur at Otter Creek.

Herron, a Columbus North and Missouri graduate, finished with a 3-over par 75 to tie for 20th overall at 13-over 229. She carded 77s on both Wednesday and Thursday.

Julia Potter-Bobb of Indianapolis had a three-shot lead going into Friday’s final round, but carded a 2-over 74 to finish runner-up at 4-under for the tournament and allow Kayla Benge of Plainfield to prevail by two strokes after firing a 3-under 69 to win the championship at 6-under 210.

For her round Friday, Herron shot a 3-over 39 on the front nine and an even-par 36 on the back.

“I made a few bogeys on the front side. I hit it in a spot where it was hard to get it up-and-down, but I was hitting really great and putting it really well,” Herron said. “I figured if I could get it to the back side and make a few birdies, I’d be good. I shot even-par on the back, which was my best out of the three days, so it was nice to finish on a high note.”

Nathaly Munnicha

Nathaly Munnicha didn’t match her performance from Thursday, but it was still better than Wednesday’s round by carding a 78 and tying for 30th overall. She posted an 85 on Wednesday and a 73 on Thursday.

For her round Friday, Munnicha, a North graduate and incoming junior at Xavier, shot a 5-over 41 on the front nine and 1-over 37 on the back.

Regardless of her results, Munnicha had fun on the course throughout the tournament. She’ll play in another tournament in a couple weeks before heading to Xavier next month.

“It’s always fun to play at Otter. The course is great. It’s been in the best shape it has been in a really long time,” Munnicha said.
