LILLIAN, ALABAMA
Richard Lee Martin, 88, of Lillian, AL, passed away July 21, 2023 peacefully at home with his beloved wife Johanna at his side. His family and friends miss him dearly but are comforted knowing he is resting in the arms of his Heavenly Father. Rejoice!
Richard was born in Bartholomew County, Indiana to Jess &Winnie Martin. He was 5th of their 7 children; Stella, Broten, Ruth, Paul, Richard, Charlotte, &Nancy.
Richard graduated from Columbus High School in Columbus, Indiana in 1953 and then swiftly enlisted into the Army and served three years, mostly at Fort McNair, Washington, D.C., where he then met his soon to be wife, Johanna.
He and Johanna were married Sept 8th 1956. The newlyweds soon moved to Youngstown Ohio where he started his apprenticeship and worked as an Electrician at Youngstown Sheet &Tube for 9 years. He then worked at General Motors as an Electrician from 1972 until retirement in 1999. Among his many achievements, his most prized was his family.
Upon retirement, he and his wife Jo logged thousands of miles across the USA in their RV. Settling in Lillian, AL, Richard spent his time cracking wise with his buddies and watching his westerns. Most of all he enjoyed dancing with his beloved wife.
Preceding in death are his parents Jess &Winnie, sisters Stella &Ruth and brothers Broten &Paul. He is survived by his sisters Charlotte &Nancy, his wife Johanna of 66 years and his children, Elizabeth (Larry), Gary, Rebecca (John), &Jessica. He leaves 8 grandchildren, Kelly, Lauren, Taylor, Carrie, Sarah, William, Jesse, &Stacey. He leaves 11 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-granddaughter.
He was a faithful member of Lillian Methodist Church. A Celebration of Life will be held at Lillian Methodist Church to celebrate his life and his birthday on August 26th @10:30 am.
