A Brown County sheriff’s deputy was critically injured in an off-duty motorcycle crash in western Bartholomew County on Wednesday, according to the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department.
At approximately 2:47 p.m. Wednesday, Bartholomew County deputies responded to an accident with injury involving a motorcycle and pickup truck at the intersection of West State Road 46 and the 10550 block of Old Nashville Road.
Dispatch was informed that the driver of the motorcycle was unresponsive, and additional assistance was required.
The driver of the motorcycle, Brown County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Timothy True, off-duty at the time of crash, suffered significant head injuries as a result of the accident. Deputy True was transported from the scene via Lifeline to an Indianapolis area hospital.
“At the time of this release, Deputy True’s condition is reported to be critical, but stable,” said a press release issued Thursday afternoon by Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Sgt. Dane Duke.
The Bartholomew County Accident Reconstruction Team was called to document the scene. The preliminary investigation indicates that the pickup truck pulled out onto West State Road 46 from Old Nashville Road in front of the motorcycle, resulting in a collision. The investigation is ongoing.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with Deputy True and his family,” Sheriff Chris Lane said. “The Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office remains available to assist our fellow law enforcement colleagues in Brown County throughout this difficult time.”
