BCSC’s back to school video goes pop punk with Blink-182

Photo provided Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp. Superintendent Jim Roberts brings a new take on Blink 182's ‘All the Small Things,' in his back-to-school music video.

COLUMBUS, Ind. — “Say it ain’t so, it’s time to go, turn the lights on, let’s start the show.”

These are the words sung by superintendent Jim Roberts in the Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp.’s latest music video heralding the start of the 2023-24 school year. The video a parody of Blink-182’s “All the Small Things” is called “All The School Things” and can be found on BCSC’s YouTube channel and Facebook page. It was released Wednesday, with BCSC schools opening the following day.

“Mark your calendars, set your alarms, and get ready to be inspired to make this school year one for the books!” school officials wrote in a social media post introducing the song.

In the video, Roberts sings about the new school year and what it has in store for BCSC students. “All The School Things” also features clips of students and staff including humorous scenes such as CSA Lincoln Principal Brett Findley running to get to school on time, only to have the door close in his face as Roberts reminds the audience not to be late.

In the video, he’s wearing a “Think 182” T-shirt which is also a parody of the band’s merchandise.

There are also clips of Columbus East academic coach John Sims and East auditorium director Kevin Welsh showing off their drumming skills.

“They both really play drums, and I thought it would be something fun to show staff members who have that musical ability,” said BCSC communications coordinator Josh Burnett. “And we asked them to do it, and they were glad to help out.”

There are also shots from this year’s new teacher orientation, an administrator retreat, new student orientations and construction at Parkside Elementary, he said.

“All the School Things” is the latest installment in BCSC’s tradition of musical parodies. Last year, the school corporation kicked off the new year with “Ready Like,” a spoof of Walker Hayes’ “Fancy Like.” Other videos include “Should We Close or Should We Go?” and “Old Town Pool.”
