Club Olympia closes season at Divisional Championships

Club Olympia wrapped up competition at the Indiana Swimming 2023 South East Divisional Championships last weekend at Center Grove to conclude its summer long course season.

The divisional meet consisted 25 teams from primarily southeast and central Indiana, represented by swimmers who achieved divisional level cuts during the long course season. Club Olympia had 24 qualified athletes in competition and the 14-and-unders achieved best times in 80% of their swims.

Aahan Gupta and Chad Pendleton both were two-time individual event champions in the 10U boys division. Gupta was first in the 200-meter individual medley and 50 backstroke, and Pendleton swam to the top spot in the 50 freestyle and 50 breaststroke. Both were part of the winning 10U boys 200 medley relay, along with Arash Thokade and Sarthak Deshmukh.

Other top podium finishers were Shreyan Kulkarni, who placed first in the 11-12 boys 500 freestyle and also was the highest finishing 11-year-old in the 14U 1,650 freestyle, where he finished third. Cavan Stilson won the Men’s Open 200 backstroke, and Dathan Wolf, who swims for Valparaiso University, but trains in the summer with Club Olympia, grabbed the top spot in the Men’s Open 100 butterfly.

In the 10U boys division, Gupta also placed second in the 100 freestyle, third in the 50 butterfly and 200 freestyle and fifth in the 50 freestyle. Pendleton finished second in the 50 butterfly and 100 backstroke and 14th in the 500 freestyle competing in the 12U boys division for that event. Sarthak Deshmukh took seventh in the 200 IM, 12th in the 50 breaststroke, 14th in the 200 freestyle and 18th in the 100 backstroke.

Emily Meek placed third in the 10U girls 100 breaststroke, ninth in the 50 breaststroke and 100 butterfly and 13th in the 50 butterfly and 200 IM. Myra Jaryal finished 13th in the 100 breaststroke, 14th in the 100 butterfly and 15th in the 50 breaststroke. Also competing in the 10U division were Cali Gray and Bella Zhang.

For the 11-12 boys, Kulkarni also added a fourth in the 100 butterfly, fifth in the 100 breaststroke and sixth in the 50 breaststroke. Xavier Zhang was on the podium three times, taking sixth in the 500 freestyle, seventh in the 200 freestyle and eighth in the 200 IM, and also placed 12th in the 100 freestyle and 15th in the 50 backstroke. Arjun Agarkar took 10th in the 200 IM and 16th in the 200 freestyle. Daxton Wolf was 11th in the 50 breaststroke and 13th in the 500 freestyle. Adir Joshi had two top 20 finishes.

Lily Pendleton grabbed a fourth-place medal in the 11-12 girls 500 freestyle and finished 13th in the 50 breaststroke, 100 butterfly and 100 freestyle. Shourya Malviya placed 11th in the 200 IM and 13th in the 50 butterfly. Kay Payne took 12th in the 500 freestyle and 14th in the 100 butterfly.

In the 13-14 girls division, Sanaa Kulkarni claimed four podium spots with a fifth in the 100 breaststroke and 200 breaststroke, seventh in the 1,650 freestyle and eighth in the 400 IM. She also finished 13th in the 500 freestyle and 19th in the 100 butterfly and was the club’s Most Improved Female Performer at the meet, achieving best times in all eight of her swims.

Aksh Ranjan finished on the podium with a seventh in the 200 breaststroke and added 12th-place finishes in the 100 breaststroke and 100 backstroke and finished 15th in the 200 backstroke. Ranjan was the club’s Most Improved Male Performer at the meet, achieving best times in all 10 of his swims.

In the Men’s Open division, Stilson added ninth-place finishes in the 100 freestyle and 500 freestyle. Wolf added a third-place finish in the 200 freestyle. Ty Mayer finished fourth in the 500 freestyle and sixth in the 200 butterfly. Ethan Hall was 10th in the 400 IM. Luke Miller also competed in the Men’s Open Division.

In addition to winning the 200 medley relay, the 10U Boys also claimed second in the 200 freestyle relay. In the 11-12 boys division, Malviya, Agarkar, Zhang, Daxton Wolf and Shreyan Kulkarni combined to take third in both the 200 freestyle and 200 medley relays. The 10U Girls team of Gray, Jaryal, Meek and Eva Rayomand were seventh in both the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays. For the 15-18 Boys Division, Stilson, Hall, Mayer and Miller combined for seventh in the 200 medley relay.

Josh Pendleton is in Elkhart this weekend competing for Team Indiana in the Central Zone Championships for qualifying 14U swimmers. Most Club Olympia athletes will have a few weeks off before commencing practice for the Fall and Winter short course season.
