A local organization is sharing free postcards to encourage members of the public to write kind messages to young people.

The Council for Youth Development will distribute 8,000 postcards across the community through Aug. 11 as part of its annual “Shine On” campaign to celebrate the United Nations’ International Youth Day, which is Aug. 12. Postcards will be available at a variety of locations.

“The purpose of this campaign is to encourage community members to write a special message on the postcards and share them with young people in their life,” CYD officials said in a release. “Recently we distributed 1,500 postcards at the Bartholomew County School Supply Assistance Program to families and residents across the county. Please join us in spreading even more joy by picking up free postcards from pickup locations in the community and writing to a special young person in your life.”

Individuals can also participate in the campaign on social media with the hashtag #ShineOn2023.

The designs for this year’s postcards were created by four young artists: Leo Copeland, Natalie Walker, Aizah Warsi and Chetna Raj Yadav.
