Loren Kenneth (Chic) Evans, 95, passed away at Four Seasons Health Care Center on August 6, 2023. Chic was born in 1928 in the small town of Aurora, Indiana to Fred and Wilma Evans. He was nicknamed “Chic” as a young boy, after the amateur golfer, Chick Evans. Chic enjoyed playing both football and basketball in High School.

He joined the ROTC in 1946 when he started college at Indiana University. He also joined Theta Chi Fraternity as a freshman at IU. He graduated from IU in 1950 with his degree in business.

Chic met the love of his life, Margaret Ann Ingles in 1947, while both were in college at IU. They were married in 1950 in Kokomo, IN. After college graduation and their wedding, Chic was called to Active Duty in the Army in 1951 during the Korean War. Chic served in Korea from May 1951 until February 1953, and was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious service.

Chic was hired by Arvin Industries in 1953. In 1956, he became the Plant Manager for Arvin’s 17th Street Plant. The manufacturing of Arvinyl was moved to Arvin’s 17th Street Plant under Chic’s management. In 1968, he became President of Arvinyl. In 1975, he was named the President of Arvin’s Automotive Division. He retired in 1993 as President and Chief Operating Officer, after 40 years of service. As part of his responsibilities with Arvin, Chic traveled extensively in the U.S, Europe, Asia and South America, working with Arvin’s employees, partners and suppliers.

In addition to his career at Arvin, Chic was active in civic, academic and social organizations, including the Jaycee’s, the Elks Club, the Kiwanis Club, the First United Methodist Church, and Indiana University Kelley School of Business Dean’s Advisory Council. He also served on the Board of Directors of Indiana Gas and Irwin Union Bank. Chic loved Indiana University athletics,and was a season ticket holder for both football and basketball for over 50 years.

After retirement, Chic and Margaret Ann enjoyed wintering in Venice, Florida. They loved playing golf, traveling, going to plays at the Venice Little Theater, hosting friends and family and attending the Venice Presbyterian Church.

Chic will be greatly missed by his three children, Michael (Diane) Evans, Elaine (Mark) Burton, and Scott (Megan) Evans, his grandchildren Sean Evans, Andrew (Elizabeth) Evans, Evan (Beth) Burton, Alicia (Emerson) Long, and his four great-grandchildren, Parker and Logan Evans, and Madeline and Bryson Long. We all take comfort in the knowledge that he will be reunited with his beloved Margaret Ann in Heaven. He has missed her terribly since her passing on May 3, 2020.

The family would like to acknowledge the excellent care Chic received from the entire staff at Four Seasons Retirement Center and the Health Care Center. The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the Four Seasons Retirement Center Chapel (1901 Taylor Road, Columbus, Indiana 47203) Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service Saturday.

Entombment will take place at the Garland Brook Cemetery Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, a donation could be made to First United Methodist Church or to Indiana University.
