COLUMBUS, INDIANA
William D. Schroeder, Sr. (Dale) was born October 10, 1943 to Norbert Francis Schroeder and Evelyn Nora (Knoedler) Schroeder in Two Rivers, Wisconsin. He spent his formative years in Rochester, Indiana. After graduating from Rochester High School in 1961, he took a job at Indiana Metal, a textron company that produced automotive and specialty fasteners. He transferred to sister company Camcar Textron in the early 1970’s and became a very successful field sales engineer until his retirement in the year 2000. He relocated his family to Columbus, Indiana in December of 1972 where he remained until his death. He married Julia C. (Herkless) Schroeder February 8, 1964. They were married 59 years and six months to the day.
He is survived by his wife, Julia C. (Herkless) Schroeder; his brother, Paul N. Schroeder; his two sons, William D. (Bill) Schroeder, Jr., John D. Schroeder; his two granddaughters, Taylor J. (Schroeder) Ferguson, Bailey C. Schroeder and a grandson, Levi N. Schroeder.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Mary Elizabeth (Beth) ( Schroeder) Carroll and Kathryn Marie (Kay) (Schroeder) Brash.
Dale was a three- sport athlete in high school. He was a tremendous amateur golfer holding a five handicap or less well into his sixties. He had many accomplishments in amateur golf including ten holes-in-one, 1988 Club Champion at Otter Creek, Top Ten in the Indiana Amateur in the late 1980’s and shot a 64 at Otter Creek in the summer of 1981.
Dale had a very gregarious personality and a crazy sense of humor! He was tons of fun! Dale was a quietly generous man that gave to his favorite charities and performed many random acts of kindness. He was a doting grandfather who loved all of his grandchildren very much.
In keeping with the family’s wishes, cremation took place. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
