NORTH VERNON, INDIANA
Marty Bryant Stephens, 61, a resident of North Vernon, Indiana, passed from this life at 6:15 a.m. Saturday, August 19, 2023, at Norton Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky.
Marty was born in Columbus, Indiana, December 29, 1961, the son of the late H. Truman Stephens and Mildred “Maxine” Smith Stephens Hammond. He was the husband of Karen A. Banks Stephens, whom he married February 21, 1981; she survives.
Marty worked in construction and most currently he was a crane operator at The Kroot Corporation.
Marty was a member of the Laborer’s Union 741 and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles 741 in Columbus. A sports enthusiast, he loved to watch all kinds of sports and Marty loved riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle which was passionately named “Martina McRide”. He loved to spend to with his family, especially his grandkids.
His life will be cherished by his wife of 42 years, Karen; sons, Marcus Bryant Stephens of Scipio, Indiana and Derick (Krysta) Stephens of North Vernon, Indiana; grandchildren, Andrew, Jacob, Aydan, Danton and Kolton; a brother, Ron (Sheila) Stephens of Columbus; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members.
Marty was preceded in death by his father, H. Truman Stephens; his mother and stepfather, Mildred “Maxine” and Richard L. Hammond; and brothers, Max, Jerry, Richard and Dan Stephens.
The funeral service will be held at 5 p.m. Wednesday, August 23, 2023, at Barkes, Weaver &Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street; his cousin, Pastor Alan Smith will officiate.
Family and friends may gather for visitation from 3 p.m. until the service time Wednesday at the funeral home. In keeping with Marty’s wishes, cremation will take place following the funeral service.
Private inurnment will be at Bethel Baptist Cemetery.
