LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY
Sally Jo Alexander passed away Monday August 28, 2023, in Louisville, Kentucky. Born 12-04-1938 in North Vernon, IN. She attended North Vernon high school and lived there a few years and even had a job as a car hop at a local drive-in.
Sally Jo or SJ as most people knew her, moved to Columbus and worked at Irwin Union bank as an executive secretary. She helped organize dances at the officer’s club at the former Bakalar Air Base. She was also a den mother to a cub scout troop for a season. She was an avid bowler at one time, scoring a perfect game. She sold Sarah Coventry jewelry as well. She was always the “cool” mom and loved popular music, even had a record club subscription and always had the radio on.
Her daughter introduced her to the man that would steal her heart, the late, Jon Alexander and moved to Louisville KY. She continued to flourish there, career-wise as well as life in general. She and Jon traveled extensively both abroad and stateside. She loved teddy bears and had a large collection of all sorts of bears – Muffy Vanderbear being one of her favorites. She loved reading murder mystery novels.
Even in her golden years she was active – working out at Planet Fitness and having lunch with a small group of friends once a week. She always had a positive attitude no matter what came her way; always ready to help she was usually the biggest duck in the puddle. She often said, ‘I can do anything if I know it won’t last forever’, and that attitude served her well through all the health challenges she overcame. She adopted a rescue chihuahua who she was devoted to and gave her comfort and company much to the chagrin of her family, the last few months of life.
She was preceded in death by her son, Bobby Moore. She is survived by her daughter, Carole (Rob) Owings of Columbus.
Visitation will be 10AM-12PM, Thursday, August 31, 2023, at Pearson’s, 149 Breckenridge Ln. Louisville, KY with a private graveside service in Scipio, IN.
In lieu of flowers please, donate to the animal rescue group of your choice.
