Wanda L. Grimes Johnson

COLUMBUS, INDIANA

Wanda L. Grimes Johnson, 88, a resident of Columbus, Indiana, passed from this life at 12:33 p.m. Thursday, September 21, 2023, at her home.

Wanda was born in Russell Springs, Kentucky, the loving daughter of Ezra and Lillie Bolin George. On August 26, 1951, Wanda married Norman “Pete” Grimes; he preceded her in death February 26, 1994. She later married Rice Johnson October 16, 1999; he preceded her in death May 18, 2009.

A homemaker, Wanda was a fabulous cook and cherished her family with all of her heart. Wanda was a faithful member of Ogilville Christian Church; she loved the Lord, was a devoted prayer warrior and Bible reader. Wanda was an avid bowler, enjoyed gardening and being outdoors, and she had a passion for mowing grass and keeping an immaculate yard. She loved her pets, especially her dogs, Auggie and Maggie.

Surviving to cherish her memory are her children, Sherry Grimes of Columbus and Anthony (Nancy) Grimes of Columbus; grandchildren, Brent Grimes, Angie (Barry) Grimes, Nicola (Christian) Gehring, Melissa (Scott) McKenzie, Natalie (Justin) Mann and Danielle (Anthony) Tedder; 18 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and other family members.

Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, Ezra and Lillie George; husbands, Norman “Pete” Grimes and Rice Johnson; son, Danny Grimes; brothers, Tobias, Paul, Maurice and Norman George; and sisters, Opal Cloninger, Ova Wilson and Nola Richards.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 27, 2023, at Ogilville Christian Church; Dr. Martin E. Wright will officiate.

Family and friends may gather for a time of visitation from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at Barkes, Weaver &Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street and from 10 a.m. until service time Wednesday at Ogilville Christian Church.

Wanda will be laid to rest at the Bethel Baptist Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Ogilville Christian Church or Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
