SMYRNA, GEORGIA
Joyce Nelson Harmon passed away September 25, 2023, at home in Smyrna, GA. Joyce was born in Johnson City, TN June 30, 1935, to Ira and Lena Basinger Nelson. Joyce married Bobby Harmon on April 8, 1955. She is survived by siblings Ruby Merrick of Cleveland OH, Vera Bloom or Columbus IN, and Don Nelson of Greenwood, IN. Also survived by her daughters Sandy Harmon of Hutchinson KS, Brenda Apple of Greenfield IN, and Lea Garvey of Smyrna GA.
Joyces greatest loves were her grandchildren &great grandchildren. Besides visits, the kids’ video-chatted with her almost weekly. These great kids are Henry Higgins and Heidi Higgins of John and Amy Higgins of Greenfield IN, Harper Cosat and Norah Cosat of Ross and Allison Cosat, Greenfield, Devon Garvey and Everleigh L. of Dale and Lea Garvey, Smyrna GA.
Additional interests of Joyce were music, especially piano, Tenors, and old movies. She loved musicals and taught her family to appreciate music. Her favorites were Mario Lanza and The Three Tenors. She played the piano by ear and dabbled in watercolor painting, quite a talent.
Joyce also was an active participant in the school system while her kids were there, she was PTO President and held other offices as well as working as a teachers aid for many years in several different schools, kids were the priority in her life.
Joyce will be missed by many, many people.

Services have been entrusted to Barkes, Weaver &Glick Funeral Home and a private graveside service will be held at Daugherty Cemetery.
