Walk for mental health set at Donner Park

The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) of South Central Indiana will host a one- and a two-mile walk on Sunday, Oct. 22 at 2:00 p.m. starting at the Donner Park Shelter, 22nd and Sycamore streets in Columbus.

In addition to the walk, information will be shared about how NAMI supports those whose lives are directly or indirectly affected by mental illness. The event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will follow.

NAMI, the nation’s largest grassroots organization advocating for mental health for all, says the event seeks to raise $7,500 to support NAMI South Central Indiana’s programming of education, support, and advocacy in Bartholomew and Jackson Counties. All donations and efforts stay in those two counties.

Participants are encouraged to register in advance at namiwalks.org/southcentralin, where more information about the event also can be found. Registered participants who raise $100 or more for the event will receive free gifts.

Lead sponsors of the event are Columbus Regional Health and Centerstone, with supporting sponsors Schneck Orthopedics & Sports Medicine, Indiana Health Centers, Mark and Renee Gorbett and Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Homes and Crematory.
