
EVANSVILLE — Columbus North didn’t get the regional championships they were hoping for, but the Bull Dogs can take consolation in the fact that they qualified for the Boys and Girls Cross Country State Finals once again.
The North girls finished second, and the boys took third Saturday at Angel Mounds in Evansville. The top five teams advanced to the Oct. 28 state finals in Terre Haute.
Bloomington South won the girls meet with 70 points to 94 for the Bull Dogs, 148 for Jasper, 160 for Corydon Central and 164 for Edgewood. Bloomington North won the boys meet with 88 points to 94 for Floyd Central, 101 for Columbus North, 133 for Evansville Reitz and 159 for Bloomington South.

Carys Glyn-Jones led the Bull Dog girls with a fifth-place finish in 19 minutes, 1.0 second for 5,000 meters (3.1 miles). Kyleigh Wolf took ninth in 19:18.5, while Ainsley Sherlock was 18th (19:50.7), Macy Eaton 32nd (20:23.6), Emma Lowther 51st (21:03.0), Tristan Works 64th (21:26.3) and Lana Wisler 162nd (23:28.9).

Neal White finished 12th in 15:49.7 to lead the Columbus North boys. Akot Tong took 17th in 16:04.8, while Jace Works was 19th (16:06.9), Draven Martinez 31st (16:17.0), Adam Reckers 34th (16:25.0), Logan Vanzant 43rd (16:38.8) and Jonny Klaus 48th (16:43.8).

Jennings County’s boys finished 16th with 419 points, but did advance an individual to the state finals with Kraedyn Young’s 14th-place finish in 15:52.4. Also for the Panthers, Dawson Leak took 103rd in 17:42.6, while Brock Maschino was 122nd (15:54.0), Aaron Lewis 125th (17:54.9), Lain Ernstes 154th (18:31.5), Zachary Wahlman 186th (19:05.4) and Eli Lucas 234th (20:26.8).
Columbus East and Hauser each had two individuals competing. The Jets’ Colin Kistler finished 83rd in 17:26.5, and Nolan Dailey took 109th in 17:46.0. The Olympians’ Jackson Brookes finished 143rd in 18:16.2, and Austin Menefee was 157th in 18:35.3.
Brown County had four individuals. Charlie Webb finished 127th in 17:58.7, while Eli Wrightsman was 168th (18:46.4), Corbin Brahaum 173rd (18:50.7), Aden Skaggs 181st (18:55.7).
South Decatur’s lone individual, Donovan Hale, finished 218th in 19:45.4.
Meanwhile, Jennings County’s girls finished 25th as a team. Haley Vogel took 99th in 22:14.5, while Avery Willhite was 144th (23:16.3), Addie Otte 153rd (23:21.8), Isla Stevens 187th (24:15.5), Kambrie Maschino 199th (24:30.7), Alana Watts 207th (24:55.5) and Molly Wathen 216th (25:30.6).

Columbus East had five girls individuals. Carly Otte finished 92nd in 22:08.5, while Madison Swartzentruber was 141st (23:12.2), Hayden Carothers 173rd (23:44.9), Amelia Fay 174th (23:51.8), Abigail Collins 206th (24:53.8).
Brown County’s Sadie Hiatt finished 155th in 23:22.6, and Izzy Miller was 160th in 23:27.8.
