COLUMBUS
Rex E. Matlock, 82, of Columbus, passed from this life at 9:40 a.m. Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at his home.
Mr. Matlock was born July 5, 1941, in Brown County, the son of Noble C. and Florence D. Sullivan Matlock.
He married Barbara S. Grimes July 27, 1963.
Rex retired from Cummins Engine Company in 1995 after 33 years of service.
He attended Bible Church of Columbus; he enjoyed farming especially growing sweet corn and tomatoes to give away to family and friends and flower gardening.
Survivors include his wife Barbara of 60 years; children, Teresa (Jon) Damaska of Holland, Michigan, Craig E. (Sandy) Matlock of Bloomington and Melissa (Scott) Ewen of Brown County; grandchildren, Alyssa (Calvin) Gutknecht, Alex (Abi) Damaska, Elizabeth (Evaristo) Diamond, Drake (Katina) Cannon, Emily Damaska, Carter Damaska and Wyatt Ewen; five great-grandchildren and a sister, Donna Pennington of Brown County.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Ray, Richard, Keith and Ted Matlock and a sister, Wanda Gray.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Barkes, Weaver &Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with the Revs. Jerry K. Day Sr. and David Marvin officiating.
Family and friends may gather for a time of visitation from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday and 1 p.m. Monday to time of service.
He will be laid to rest at New Bellsville Cemetery in Brown County.
Memorial contributions may be made to Bible Church of Columbus or Riley Hospital for Children.
