COLUMBUS
Walter Day, 77, of Columbus, passed away unexpectedly Monday, October 16, 2023 at home.
Walter was born December 11, 1945 in Whitesburg, Kentucky, the son of Elhannon and Pearlie Mae Halcomb Day, Jr.
Mr. Day worked as a truck driver for Indiana Linen Company. Walter served in the United States Army from 1965 until 1967 when he was honorably discharged. He was an avid outdoorsman that found enjoyment in hunting and fishing. He also liked to restore old cars and trucks in his spare time.
Survivors include his son, Jason Day; daughter, Michelle (Dave) Nichter of Seymour; grandchildren, Avah and Ellie Day, Devin, Brayden and Brooklyn Wilkerson; sisters, Marrietta “Moosie” (Curt) Sipes of Columbus, Sybil Abney of Whitesburg, Kentucky, Hettie (Larry) Adams, Emmitt (Christina) Day, both of Pert Creek, Kentucky; brother, Randall (Carol) Day, also of Whitesburg, Kentucky; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Elhannon Glen Day, Blaine Day, Noah Thomas Day, Brenda Caudill and Anita Day.
In keeping with the family’s request, cremation will take place and no service is planned at this time.
Inurnment will take place at Diana Blair Cemetery in Whitesburg, Kentucky at a later date.
