Prep sports notebook: Locals selected All-State, All-Conference

Two Columbus North boys soccer players are listed on the Indiana Soccer Coaches Association All-State first team.

Seniors Aidan Whitley and Christian Cardoso were named to the squad. On the girls team, Columbus East’s Nadia Harris is an honorable mention selection.

North athletes make All-CI teams

Several Columbus North players are represented on the All-Conference teams in boys tennis, girls soccer, boys soccer, volleyball and football.

In boys tennis, Hank Lin, Parth Shah, Amrit Kar and Anvay Atram made the first team.

In girls soccer, Avery Baker, Page Mora, Paige Terry and Amelia Corney were named All-Conference. Allison Kolhouse and Rachel Merritt are honorable mention.

In boys soccer, Christian Cardoso, Aidan Whitley, Misaki Takemoto, Konnor Gribbons and Leo Iorio were named All-Conference. Nico Gotoh is honorable mention.

In volleyball, Karen Dutro, Kennedy Horn and Morgan Osborn were named All-Conference. Kaitlin White is honorable mention.

In football, Drew Schiefer, Luke Russell, Garrett Long and Bryce Luttrell were named All-Conference. Gino Prescott, Braylon Thoman, Keller DeSpain, Jose Ramirez, Tyrrice Degraffenreid and Jayce Emmitt are honorable mention.

North boys tennis coach Kendal Hammel and girls cross-country coach Rick Sluder, who led their teams to conference titles, were named Conference Indiana Coaches of the Year in their respective sports.

East, JC players named All-HHC

Several Columbus East and Jennings County athletes have been named to All-Hoosier Hills Conference teams.

In football, East’s Caaden Gault, Nate Anderson and Blake Borkhardt and Jennings’ Brandon Braun and JoJo Hifo made the first team. East’s Seth Lankey and Noah Hilderbrand and Jennings’ Blaine Ison and Dylan Harrison are honorable mention selections.

In volleyball, East’s Chloe Gilley and Caroline Frost and Jennings’ Addison Martin and Avynn Belding are on the first team. East’s Jenna Guse and Jennings’ Charlee Barlow and Mallory Manowitz made honorable mention.

In boys tennis, Jennings’ Parker Bales made the Singles first team. East’s Erik Takahashi made the Singles honorable mention, and Jennings’ Ty Zohrlaut and Ryan Schuck made Doubles honorable mention.

All-HHC boys and girls soccer selections were announced in the past couple weeks.

Lin wins North boys tennis MVP

Junior Hank Lin was awarded the Columbus North boys tennis Most Valuable Player award at the team’s banquet last week.

Michael Crossman won Most Improved and the Mental Attitude/Sportsmanship Award. Austin Clark won the Bull Dog Award.

Mora wins North girls soccer MVP

Junior Page Mora won the Most Valuable Player award at Columbus North girls soccer banquet earlier this week.

Avery Baker was named Offensive MVP, and Allison Kolhouse was named Defensive MVP. Amelia Corney and Paige Terry won the Bull Dog Award, and Anna Donica and Charlotte Loheide won the Legacy Award.

Jets announce cross-country awards

The Hauser boys and girls cross-country teams recently announced their postseason awards.

Braydon McFarland and Madison Hollman received the Perseverance Award, Grady Niccum and Addison Dailey earned the Positive Attitude Award and Colin Kistler and Lucie Asher received the Leadership Award.

Cougars selected All-State

Two Trinity Lutheran volleyball players have been named to the Indiana High School Volleyball Coaches Association Class 1A All-State team.

Juniors Laura Roeder and Addison Darlage are on the first team. Roeder, Darlage and fellow juniors Carson Bowling and Madksin Keith made the Class 1A South All-District team.

Panthers commit to colleges

Four Jennings County seniors participated in a college signing ceremony Wednesday morning at the school.

Austin Byford will play baseball at Indiana Tech, Kenzie Matern will play softball at Marian and Cheyeanna Leslie will compete in track and field at Hanover. Juliann Woodard earlier had committed to play basketball at Michigan State.

North college signings next week

Columbus North will hold its first of three college signing ceremonies for the Class of 2024 on Wednesday.

The signings will be held in the school’s cafeteria beginning at 5:30 p.m.
