Columbus police are investigating the discovery of an improvised explosive device, or pipe bomb, in a vehicle near the area of 13th Street and Pearl Street at about noon Tuesday.
The city police department Explosive Ordinance Team, or bomb squad, was called to the scene and removed the device from the vehicle, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.
The device was then secured by the bomb squad and transported out of the city by a route that avoided schools and neighborhoods where it is being disposed of Tuesday afternoon, Harris said.
An individual is in custody in relation to this incident, but further details on that are being withheld as the investigation continues, Harris said.
No injuries were reported.
The area around the Pearl and 13th Street intersection was blocked off for several hours Tuesday during the process of removing the pipe bomb from the car.
