Prep sports notebook: East’s Gilley named Indiana All-Star

Columbus East senior Chloe Gilley has been selected to the 3A/4A South All-Star team for Sunday’s Indiana High School Volleyball Coaches North-South All-Star Game.

Meanwhile, three Trinity Lutheran juniors have been named to the 1A/2A South Junior All-Star team. Addison Darlage, Madison Keith and Laura Roeder will play in the 1A/2A Junior game against the North at 12:30 p.m. Sunday at Lawrence North.

The 3A/4A junior game will begin around 2 p.m., followed by the 1A/2A senior game at around 3:30 p.m. The 3A/4A senior game will start around 5 p.m.

North at Greensburg scrimmage postponed

Columbus North’s boys basketball scrimmage scheduled for Thursday at Greensburg has been postponed to Friday after the passing of Bull Dog player Kole Shewmaker.

Shewmaker was injured in a car accident on South Marr Road Tuesday afternoon. He died on Wednesday evening at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

The scrimmage has been moved to 6 p.m. Friday at Greensburg.

Gilley, Frost named East volleyball MVPs

Seniors Chloe Gilley and Caroline Frost have been named co-MVPs of the Columbus East volleyball team.

Lilah Klei was named Most Improved. Savanna Sullivan won the Mental Attitude Award, and Jenna Guse won the Torch Award.

Horn selected North volleyball MVP

Junior Kennedy Horn has been named MVP of the Columbus North volleyball team.

Morgan Osborn won the Bull Dog Award, Katelynn Mabis won the Mental Attitude Award and Kaitlin White won the Kathy Cox Heart of a Bull Dog Award. Statistical winners were Horn (kills), Reese Edwards (assists), Karen Dutro (blocks), Osborn (digs) and Roselynn Venegas (serving percentage).

Kenna Conrad was selected JV MVP. Clara Balzano was Most Improved, Lucy Wilson won the Mental Attitude Award and Hannah Perry won the Casey Cooley Award.

Kyndal Wheeler was named Freshman MVP. Rori Pollert was Most Improved, Kiara Athaide won the Mental Attitude Award and Lola Rose won the Jolie Crider Award.

Harris, Scott named East girls soccer MVPs

Seniors Nadia Harris and Taylor Scott have been named co-MVPs of the Columbus East girls soccer team.

Harris and Kira VanValkenburg were selected Most Valuable on Offense, and Taylor Scott was named Most Valuable on Defense. Kylie Hatcher and Cadence Zeser won Mental Attitude for Varsity; and Sophie Glick, Erin Walters and Emma Christie were named Most Improved for Varsity. Hatcher was named the Olympians’ Indiana Soccer Coaches Association Top Team Player.

Jenna Patton and Stefani Christopher were selected Mental Attitude for JV. Ella Garn, Jo Conrad and Sherlyn Rivas were named Most Improved for JV.

North college signing ceremony canceled

Columbus North was to hold a college signing ceremony on Wednesday, but that was canceled.

The Bull Dogs plan to have their next college signing ceremony at 5:30 p.m. Jan. 31.
