As the holiday season approaches, Edinburgh Police are seeing an increase in shoplifting at Indiana Premium Outlets.
In the last 60 days, Edinburgh Police, along with several mall store employees and loss prevention officers, have recovered more than $8,230 worth of stolen merchandise from multiple stores all over the state.
Edinburgh Police Chief Doyne Little, Jr. says there have been four recent cases where stores had called in the thefts in progress. In these cases, a total of five subjects have been arrested. However, five additional suspects evaded police and fled the state, so these cases have been forwarded for review by the prosecutor’s office, Little said.
A plethora of stolen items including clothing for adults and children, winter coats, accessories and holiday-scented candles have been recovered in possession of the suspects who have been caught. Stores including Old Navy, Victoria’s Secret, Bath and Body Works and American Eagle were hit by the thefts, evidence photos show.
Little credits the great teamwork between Edinburgh officers and the local store’s loss prevention officers for helping recover the items, he said.
