CPD says one adult male is dead, one adult male in custody, following shooting on Joseph Cox Court

5:53 p.m. update

Columbus Police released the following statement regarding the shooting on Joseph Cox Court:

Columbus police detectives are investigating a Monday afternoon shooting that left one person dead. At approximately 4:45 p.m., CPD officers responded to a residence in the 2600 block of Joseph Cox Court in regards to a report of shots fired.

When officers arrived they observed an adult male, and who was injured in a shooting. The man was pronounced deceased a short time later.

A person of interest in the shooting was taken into custody after he was located near the residence by officers.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing. However, there is no threat to the public at this time.

Law-enforcement resources will remain in the area as the investigation continues. Anyone with information in regards to the shooting is urged to contact Columbus police detectives at 812-376-2600.

5:30 p.m. update

COLUMBUS, Ind. — Columbus police said one adult male is dead, and another adult male is in custody following a shooting at 4:45 p.m. Monday in the 2600 block of Joseph Cox Court on Columbus’ northside.

Witnesses reported to police one person was shot during an argument between two individuals.

Police are asking residents who live near the scene to stay in their homes as police are using K9s to search the area for additional evidence in the case, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman. The location is off Middle Road on the north side of Columbus.

Police have cordoned off Joseph Cox Court and detectives have been called to the scene. Columbus Police officers were searching an area near the Homestead Mobile Home Park as the investigation continued.

The investigation is ongoing and Harris said he hoped to have additional information later tonight on the incident.

Witnesses reported to police one person was shot during an argument between two individuals.
