Mark A. Winterberg

Mark Alan Winterberg, 70, left us Friday, November 24, 2023 while surrounded by family. He fought a heroic battle with cancer.

Mark was born February 4, 1953, in Marion, Indiana, the son of Marion L. and Lois Woodhead Winterberg.

Mark was so many things to so many people. He was a hero, husband, son, brother, father, grandpa (Pa, PopPop), uncle and a friend. On July 18, 2021 he married Angie M. Heiner.

A good man with a calming presence and a strong work ethic. He truly gave the best hugs imaginable and had a heart of gold. Anyone who met him was a friend for life. His sense of humor and love for life was contagious. After moving to Columbus at a young age, Mark successfully graduated from Columbus High School in 1971. After graduating, he attended Vincennes University.

Mark found his love for football at an early age. He went on to coach the sport for many years at different levels, mentoring kids along the way. He enjoyed riding motorcycles and loved to “get away” on road trips. His other loves include his grandchildren, family time together or any event that featured racing, as he grew up watching all sorts of races with his father. Most recently, golfing with family and friends in his spare time brought him enjoyment

Mark worked for Mann’s Harley Davidson for 21 years.

Survivors include his wife, Angie; step-children, Sawyer (Kara) Hankins, Alexa (Jake) Friedly, Rylee (Jake) Carlile; grandchildren, Hazel, Harper, Elle, Gray, Beck, Hudson and Wynnie; mother, Lois Winterberg; sister, Nancy (Bill) Nay; brother-in-law, Rob (Jenny) Uphaus; several nieces and nephews, two great-nephews and one great-niece.

He was preceded in death by his father, Marion.

The funeral service will be conducted at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Barkes, Weaver &Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with Pastor Luke Maggard officiating. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. until the time of service Wednesday at the funeral home. A live stream of the funeral service may be viewed at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at barkesweaverglick.com.

In keeping with the family’s request, cremation will take place after the funeral service.
