Traffic stop leads to arrest of two in Hope on drug-related charges

HOPE — A Bartholomew County Sheriff deputy arrested two people after a traffic stop at 11:30 p.m. Sunday in the area of North State Road 9 and Midway Drive.

Sheriff deputies said Deputy Dylan Prather initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle that was displaying a false or fictitious license plate.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as Calvin Dampier, 36, of 516 Jewell St., Columbus along with the passenger, Jennifer Elgar, 36, of Elizabethtown, said sheriff department spokesman Sgt. Dane Duke.

During the traffic stop, Prather’s partner K9 Frizko was deployed for a free air sniff around the vehicle. After K9 Frizko alerted the presence of narcotics in the vehicle, Duke said.

A search was conducted which located approximately 22 grams of suspected methamphetamine, Duke said

Dampier was arrested on the charges of dealing in methamphetamine as a Level 2 felony, possession of methamphetamine as a Level 4 felony and driving while suspended with a prior conviction, a Class A misdemeanor.
Elgar was arrested on the charges of dealing in methamphetamine as a Level 2 felony, possession of methamphetamine as a Level 4 felony and possession of paraphernalia, Duke said.

Both were being held in the Bartholomew County Jail, according to jail records.
