Charles Joseph Bastian, Sr.

Charles Joseph Bastian, Sr., 85, of Kenmore NY, Ashland KY, and Columbus IN passed away Wednesday, November 22, 2023 at Four Seasons Health Care. Charles was born November 6, 1938, in Lancaster, New York, the son of Floyd A. and Isabell Magrum Bastian. On August 11, 1962, he married Joyce M. Flattery.

Mr. Bastian worked at DuPont, Ashland and Marathon Oil for 40 years before retiring. He had a very strong faith and loved his Lord. Charles was a supporter of “Heart of the Nation” Catholic Mass. His family was most important to him and he loved them unconditionally. Chuck offered “unsolicited wise counsel” to those in need. He was honorably discharged from the United States Marine Corps in 1961 after 4 years of service. Hiking and hunting were some of the ways that Mr. Bastian enjoyed spending his free time. He will be deeply missed by those that knew him.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce; children, Charles (Carolyn Jo) Bastian of Huntsville, Alabama, Joseph (Deanna) Bastian of Columbus, IN, Rev. James Bastian of Buffalo, NY, Dr. Richard (Marissa) Bastian of Carmel, IN, and Kathleen (Tom) Plamondon of Saginaw, Michigan. A family friend of Maria Kendzierski. Also, eleven grandchildren, Mathew, Brie, Katey, Joey, Jenny, Annie Bastian, and Daniel, Christopher, Isaac “Ike”, Tim and Sam Plamondon.

A private family service was held at Four Seasons Retirement Center Chapel.

Inurnment will be at St. Mary of the Assumption Cemetery in Lancaster, New York. And a “party and celebration of life” for Uncle Chuck will be held in Java, NY summer of 2024.
